Here are just a few ways River Islands is working to preserve those natural assets:
LAND
River Islands has a trail system that attracts walkers, joggers and bicyclists. Part of the trail system includes a miles-long path along the San Joaquin River.
Approximately 40% of River Islands is devoted to open space, parks, lakes, new waterways and trails. For each acre of development, a half acre is dedicated to wildlife mitigation and another half acre to the preservation of agriculture, resulting in one acre set-aside for every acre of development. Proposed energy-efficient technologies, such as passive and active solar designs, use clean energy that is naturally distributed and reduces no by-product waste or pollution. The tree-planting program proposed throughout River Islands will offset carbon-producing activities associated with community growth.
WATER
11 lakes are already a part of the community’s design, with more water features in the planning. Whether one lives on the water or enjoys it as a community amenity, opportunities abound for water recreation.
WILDLIFE
We know we weren’t the first ones here, which is why River Islands is dedicated to protecting the wildlife that continues to call our community home.
Active and passive restoration plans for Paradise Cut include more than 1,000 acres of habitat for terrestrial species such as the endangered riparian brush rabbit. It also creates a new shaded area for fish species.
New internal lakes provide stopping places for migratory birds and habitats for resident waterfowl. Isolated islands are designated as wildlife preserves
